Binduri Gunmen caught: G3, M16, AK-47 rifles seized

Gunmen arrested Binduri
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strengthened operations in Bawku and its environs subsequent to the recent gunfire and clashes in the area at Binduri.
As per a statement dated on Monday April 21, 2025, and signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, the GAF reported that forces had carried out a law enforcement search operation at Binduri.
This comes after a reports of random gunshots near the Binduri Central Market in the small hours of Monday. A joint team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, with support from the Police, rushed to the scene.
Due to that, the areas was sealed off for a thorough investigation. “One suspected gunman was arrested and handed over to the Police,” the statement said.
Weapons and recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, an empty M16 magazine, 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, a pair of boots, and one helmet. Later, reports emerged of unknown gunmen trying to enter Binduri
They were stoped by military personnel on patrol, leading to a shootout. The attackers repeatedly hastily. As per the GAF, peace has been returned to the area. The Military personnel are prepared for any eventuality The Armed Forces said it is collaborating with other agencies to maintain peace efforts in Bawku. It encouraged resident and citizens to work together as steps continue to bring lasting calm to the area.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in its role to support law and order in Bawku and its environs, has increased its activities due to ongoing violence and sporadic gunfire.
As part of these efforts, security forces have carried out raids and searches aimed at to reestablish peace and bolster security.
In the early hours of Monday, 21 April 2025, military personnel stationed at BINDURI reported hearing scattered gunfire from the Binduri Central Market area. Personnel immediately moved to the location and cordoned off the area. A joint team from the l 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, supported by the Police, undertook detailed searches to figure out and arrest those responsible.
In the process of the operation, one suspected gunman was arrested and handed over to the Police. Items recovered in the process of the search included one empty M16 rifle magazine, an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, a pair of boots, and one helmet.
Later that same day, an attempt was made by unknown individuals to breach security at Binduri but military personnel on patrols prevented the would-be infiltrators. This resulted in an exchange of fire between the military and the unknown gunmen who fled the scene.
The situation is being closely monitored, and military personnel will maintain a high state of readiness to prevent such occurrences as the GAF is working closely with other security agencies remains committed to safeguarding the peace and security of BAWKU.
