4 Ghanaian Students Jailed for Fake High School Transcripts to Enter American University
Four Ghanaian international students, Otis Opoku, Evans Oppong, Cyrilstan Nomobon Sowah-Nah, and Henry Dabuo, have been jailed in the United States for allegedly forging high school transcripts to gain admission to Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.
Prosecutors allege the students submitted transcripts to the Lehigh Admissions Office that reported higher grades than their high school transcripts to secure their place at the University.
The students face charges of forgery and theft of services and are held in Northampton County Jail on $100,000 bail.
The investigation began when Lehigh’s Vice Provost of Admissions and Financial Aid, Dan Warner questioned about the validity of the transcript submitted by Jude Dabuo, Henry Dabuo’s older brother, who had been admitted to the university and was set to begin the upcoming semester.

The Admissions Office discovered concerning format, markings and spelling errors on Jude Dabuo’s transcript which led them to rescind Jude Dabuo’s admission and investigate his younger brother’s credentials.
Further inquiries made revealed similar discordance in the applications of the other three students.
According to the report, Opoku received $212,933 in financial aid, while Sowah-Nah and Dabuo received $127,213 and $129,244 respectively.
Opoku and Oppong were placed on Lehigh’s Dean’s List with GPAs of 3.6 or higher.
The students were arraigned at Magisterial District Court and charged on September 9 and are currently waiting preliminary hearings scheduled on September 24.
LUPD has declined to comment, and Lehigh University officials have not made any further comment on the case since the last day.
GoFundMe page has been created on social media to raise fund to support their legal battle including bail reduction, commissary expenses, and attorney fees.
