3 teenagers arrested for butchering and killing 15-year-old friend over GH₵10

Three teenage boys have been arrested and detained by the Ghana Police Service in Akuapem-Adukrom in the Eastern Region, in connection with the death of a 15-year-old schoolmate, revealed to be Richard Commey, a final-year Junior High School student.
As per a report by UTV Ghana, the incident arose from a dispute over GH₵10. The prime suspect was reportedly asked to run an errand with money but later returned, claiming the money went missing.
A different boy who was walking alongside with the deceased accused the suspect of using the money for sports betting. This kind of accusations led to a confrontation between the two boys, which intensified into a physical fight.
Richard Commey, the deceased, tried to intervene and separate the pair. sadly, his effort were met with resistance. Around 9 p.m. that evening, the main suspect reportedly ambushed Richard while he was on his way to buy food. He was alongside two other boys, who are believed to have collaborated in the incident.
In the course of the assault, one of the suspects was said to have used a machete to hit Richard on the head, leading to a mortal injury. The residents who came across victim immediately took home to the hospital but sadly, he was confirmed dead at the hospital.
All three suspects were arrested and detained shortly after the incident and have been formally accused and brought before the court. The Ghana Police Service is conducting a thorough investigation which has left the community in shock and mourn urgent need for improved conflict resolution education among young people, as well as stronger community support systems.
