25 bags of smuggled cocoa beans intercepted by Immigration Officers in Bunkprugu District
Important and effective operation was held with the purpose of curbing illicit cross-border activities, the Bunkprugu Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service was able to expropriate 25 bags of cocoa beans being sneaked from Kauk-Jago, to Togo.
The operation highlights the commitment that the Ghana Immigration Service is showing to fight against smuggling in the region.
On the report of a detailed letter brought out by the Bunkprugu Sector Command, the expropriation took place around 22:00 hours as officers portrayed on a reliable tip-off regarding the criminal smuggling operation.
Quickly an expert team of eight officers were organised by The Officer in Charge (OIC), to the Kauk area to set up an effective pitfall.
When the operation was ongoing, two unregistered ‘motor kings’ that were transporting the 25 bags of cocoa beans were arrested by Immigration Officers.
The letter stated that the Ghana Immigration Service has handed over the seized goods to the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in the Bunkprugu sector for further processing and investigation.
The suspects responsible the illicit smuggling operation have been arrested and are now in custody, awaiting further and more questioning to aid the investigation process.
Authorities are working vigorously to discover the full scope of the smuggling organisation and prevent future illicit activities and operations along the border.
This seizure is an evidence to the corporation efforts of law enforcement agencies in the North East Region, pursuing to strengthen border security and protect the integrity of Ghana’s trade.
