2026 World Cup qualifiers: Ibrahim earns Maiden Black Stars

Ibrahim Sulemana, the talented midfielder from Cagliari, has received his first call-up to the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic. This is a significant milestone for the young player, who has been making waves in the football world.
Sulemana’s journey began when he joined Atalanta’s youth team in 2019 after impressing in several trials. However, due to a major injury, he later moved to Hellas Verona in 2021. Despite this setback, he persevered and eventually made his way to the senior team the following year, making his debut in a match against Salernitana.
In July 2023, the 21-year-old made another move, this time to Cagliari. Since then, he has made 14 appearances in Serie A and scored two goals. His performance has been impressive, and he continues to strive for success in the league.
Ghana’s upcoming matches against Mali and the Central African Republic will provide Sulemana with an opportunity to showcase his skills on an international stage. The fact that he has been included in the squad demonstrates the coach’s belief in young talents like Sulemana, as he has previously given opportunities to players like Forson Amankwah and Ibrahim Osman.

However, Sulemana will face tough competition for a spot in the starting lineup, as experienced players like Abdul Salis Samed and Baba Iddrisu currently occupy the central midfield position. The 20-year-old midfielder, who recently joined Cagliari on a four-year deal from Hellas Verona, is determined to don the national colors and represent his beloved country on the international stage.

In an interview with his club’s YouTube channel, Sulemana expressed his dedication to performing at his best to catch the attention of the national team selectors.
He said, “I’m giving everything, I hope to play well, and when the time comes to be called up, I’d like to play for Ghana because I love my country.”
“I love expressing my characteristics, whatever position the coach wants to put me in to help the team. If I had to choose, I would like to play central midfield.”
“Knowing how to use both feet in football is essential and I’m improving a lot to grow in this respect. Shooting from distance is definitely one of my main characteristics,” he added.

The young talent’s admiration for the four-time African champions is evident, and he is eager to showcase his skills on the international stage.
On working with 71-year-old Claudio Ranieri, he said: “I like to learn, constantly improve. Being coached by one of the most experienced Italian coaches in the world, who has led top European clubs and won a Premier League will help me do it.”
As his rise in the football world continues, Ibrahim Sulemana aims to establish himself as a long-term presence in Serie A. With his skills and dedication, there is no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him.
