Ten Hag expressed his thoughts to Voetbal International, stating: “It has been 11 years since Manchester United last won the league in 2013. Despite this, there is still an expectation for us to win every game and compete at the highest level. However, the reality is that this club is not yet prepared for that level of success.

“We began building something last year, taking the first steps towards progress. Yet, the magnitude of this club became apparent, with constant demands for more. While there was satisfaction within the club, external voices criticized our achievements, claiming that winning the Carabao Cup, losing the FA Cup Final, and finishing third were not enough. This shows a lack of perspective. Other clubs had stronger squads.”

Ten Hag emphasizes that the owners initially expressed their support, stating that they wanted to make changes and rebuild together. This is what they directly communicated to him, according to Ten Hag.

Nevertheless, as the club experienced its worst-ever Premier League finish under the Dutchman this season, the United board has begun exploring other possibilities. Despite the disappointing outcome, Ten Hag remains steadfast in defending a campaign that still holds the potential for silverware.

In his own words, he asserts, “I want to make it clear. It hasn’t been good. It’s been terrible. But despite all of that, we will be competing in the FA Cup final.”
