2025 Internal Audit Conference: Deloitte Boss tells auditors paper audits are over — digitalization is now in charge

Daniel Kwadwo Owusu, the Country Manager of Deloitte Ghana, has encouraged the audit professionals to adopt and use technology and train themselves continuously in digitalization to keep up with the evolving trends with the profession.
As per Mr Daniel Kwadwo Owusu, the Country Manager of Deloitte Ghana, if they fail to do so, it will lead to some of them losing their roles in some years to come. Mr Daniel Kwadwo Owusu said that digitalization is taking over the world as of the time he was presenting on “Strategic Audit Leadership Agency Conference.” Due to that the internal auditors need to make the most of modern technology to be effective and efficient. Mr Owusu stated that a lot of government agencies like the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Water Company is going to be automated.
Mr Daniel Owusu made emphasis that “The kind of changes technology is bringing is too swift and is likely to impact us sooner than expected. My advice is that we prepare ourselves for that. We have to start learning any tools that come our way.”
Moving on, he added that “If we are to make an impact, we cannot continue to do the same things each and every time. You cannot do audit with normal approach.” Mr Daniel Kwadwo Owusu also drew to are attention digitalization helps things to run faster and more smoothly, reduces the time spent on auditing and at the end it helps cut down waste.
The Country Manager of Deloitte Ghana also said the work of internal auditors should go hand in hand with digital governance and innovation. He listed a few digital innovative tools that auditors can embrace to help them work better. Some of the tools are Reveal which assures testing, I-confirm and Pair D, Power BI and Gen AI tools that works the same way as ChatGPT.
While working through the digital challenges, Mr Daniel Kwadwo Owusu emphasized the need for auditors to be involved early in the system design and control testing, investment in continuous training and digital literacy programmes for internal audit teams.
