Why I Hired Friends To Kill My Stepmother – Young Man Confesses (Photo)
Okeke, who worked as an accountant for the National Population Commission (NPC), was allegedly strangled to death at her home at No. 4 Umuziocha, Awka, on September 28, 2022.
Ekenedilichukwu Okeke, a 20-year-old man, has admitted to killing his stepmother.
Friday, he talked about how he set up his friends to kill his stepmother, Mrs. Theresa Okeke, in Awka, Anambra State. He gave a detailed account of what happened.
Okeke, who worked as an accountant for the National Population Commission (NPC), was allegedly strangled to death at her home at No. 4 Umuziocha, Awka, on September 28, 2022.
But the suspect told police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Amawbia, along with 19 others, that he killed the dead woman so that she could get N1 million from her phone.
He said he had to hire his friends to help him do the act because the dead woman, who had been helping him pay his fees, had told him he had to leave her house because of a misunderstanding.
He said, “I finished taking the JAMB test and was doing some simple jobs to earn money for my college fees. Three months ago, I also worked for NPC.
“At some point, I got into a fight with my mom, and she yelled at me. I begged her to forgive me, and I thought she would. The next day, though, she told me to leave.
“I called my dad and older brother to tell them what was going on, but my dad didn’t answer. My brother asked me what happened, so I told him.
“Then, I called my friends and asked them to help me get money from my mom so I could pay my fees before I got in. She fell and slouched along the way.
“I’m very sorry, and I’m praying that God will forgive me and that the government will too.”
One of the accomplices, a musician named Peter Jideofor, admitted that he had tied the dead woman’s mouth shut when she tried to scream. He also said that they would not have killed her if she had given them her pin number.
He told me, “He told me he had a problem with his stepmother and asked me to help him get N1 million from her.” With my other guys, it was around 2 a.m. Her hands and feet were tied.
“When she tried to yell, I tied her mouth shut. During this, she stopped taking in air. At that point, I left because killing wasn’t part of my mission. I told the guy, as I was leaving, to keep checking on her every 30 minutes.
“But she told us she was dead in the morning. We were all shocked and ran away, but I stayed inside until I was arrested.”
Jideofor, who said he was an orphan, felt bad about what he did and said it was his first time doing something like that.
“I have to admit that I didn’t intend to kill her. I feel terrible. I’ve never done this before. My age is 24. We were going to do a transfer, but she wouldn’t give us the PIN.
CP Echeng had said earlier that the main suspect was the same person who had come to report that his stepmother had been brutally killed by unknown people.
He said that the suspects had since admitted to doing the crime and that they would be charged soon.
He told the police, “On September 28, around 2:00 a.m., a woman named Mrs. Theresa Okeke, who was 54 years old and worked as an accountant for NPC in Awka, was brutally killed in her home at No. 4 Umuziocha, Awka.”
“As soon as the case was reported, her 20-year-old stepson, Ekenedilichukwu Okeke, who lived in the same house as the dead person, was taken into custody and questioned.
“He said that armed thieves broke into their house and killed his stepmother. But after he was questioned with the help of intelligence, he finally admitted to the crime and named his accomplice.
“Detectives from State CID Awka moved quickly to find the accomplices, which led to the arrest of three more suspects: Peter Jideofor, aka Rider, 23, Chukwuemeka Christopher, 29, and Chisom Emmanuel, 22.
“They have all admitted to the crime and said that the dead woman’s stepson hired them to kill her so that they could take $1 million from her bank account because they knew her phone password.”
