The President, John Dramani Mahama has assented to series of bills to abolish taxes and bills

On 13th March, 2025,The Finance Minister, Dr.Cassiel Ato Forson displayed eight bills to Parliament, targeting the amendment of quiet a number of taxes and levies. These taxes and levies has been a burden on Ghanaians.
The bills displayed included the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025,Earmarked funds Capping and Re-alighnment (Amendment) Bill, Emission Levy(Repeal) Bill,2025, Income tax (Amendment ) Bill,2025, among others. All the levies with exception of E-levy were a little bit agreeable.
Unlike E-levy introduced in 2022 imposed a 1% charge on electronic transactions including mobile money transfers and online payments. Its existence encounted widely spread public resistance as a result of its perceived impact on disposable income.
The most public resistance is the betting tax where 10% charges are levied on vast winnings from gambling activities. The betting tax also face criticism from stakeholders in the gaming world. This made the then flag bearer upon careful consideration to pledge that these taxes will be abolished when he comes into power.
Lo and behold, he is now the president and upon seeing that the pledge is fulfilled, the president John Dramani Mahama, assented to a series of legislative bills meant abolish these taxes. He has fulfilled his pledge to abolish taxes and bills.He has signed the bills pertaining to the abolishment of taxes and levies.
