The Member of Parliament for Garu ,pleads with the government to fix their scrapped roads by the NPP administration
The Member of Parliament for Garu in the Upper East Region of Ghana,Thomas Anabah has raised a concerns on the total absence of tarred roads in his constituency.
To set the ball rolling,he blamed the NPP political party for it.According to him,before the NPP came in to power,they had their roads to be tarred which allowed easy transport of goods and service.These tars were removed by the NPP administration claiming they will fix a better and upgraded one which never materialised.We had tarred roads up until some point. Towards the end of 2023, the NPP government gave the contract to the NPP parliamentary candidate to scrap the tarred roads and replace them with asphalt. And they did nothing afterward,” he stated.He stated that the actions of the previous government have left the constituency without any tarred roads.
Secondly,the untarred roads has resulted in many effects.Effects like road accidents,health disorder,increased pollution among others has been on the rise due to the scrapped roads.The scrapped roads has led to air pollution causing the dwellers health disorders like catarrh,increase asthma.It has led to poor visibilities which makes it difficult for drivers to see other approaching vehicles leading to road accidents.Off late,the number of accidents encounter is very heart breaking. People are always scared to go about their daily activities due to this untarred roads.He stressed that the removal of the roads has left the area exposed to thick dust, which he says has triggered a 45% increase in pneumonia cases among residents.
Thirdly,he urges government to come to their aid.The Member of Parliament cries out that the untarred road is as a results of the NPP administration,upon scrapping the initially tarred roads left them scrapped and therefore government should come to their aid.”The untarred road is causing a lot of problems which is unbearable.As we speak, there isn’t a meter of coal tar road in Garu, and the cases of pneumonia have increased by 45% because of the dust. This was caused by the previous government,” he added.
