Take Active Participation in December Polls- Kufuor urges the Youth
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor urges Ghana’s youth to take an active participation in shaping the country’s future in the upcoming December elections. Speaking at the launch of the Kufuor Scholars Foundation’s voter campaign, the former president emphasized that the youth’s involvement in the electoral process is crucial in determining the country’s progress.
“Ghana has about 30 million citizens, and with your learning and mature brain power throughout our societies, if you would do what you should do as responsible citizens to try to give the nation good leadership, inclusive leadership, if you would do that, then I tell you, within a few years you will see Ghana turning around to really be coming up, to be emulated on the continent of Africa to better the lot of humanity,” Mr. Kufuor said.
The former president also referred to the youth as “kingmakers”, emphasizing their potential to shape the country’s future if they participate actively in the electoral process.
“You are not only kingmakers, but you are the ones who will inherit this country. You are the ones who will build upon what we have started. And I tell you, if you do not take your responsibility seriously, then you will find yourselves in trouble,” he warned.

He added that Ghana’s youth have a critical role to play in shaping the country’s future and promoting good governance. “Having over 70% of the youth population means that, you will be unstoppable if you become committed to doing what is right,” he said.
The situation is critical, as a survey conducted by the Kufuor Scholars Foundation revealed that 43% of every 1,000 Ghanaians plan not to vote in the upcoming election. The Kufuor Scholars Programme under the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation has partnered with the National Commission for Civic Education to launch a voter campaign exercise aimed at heightening education and awareness on voting during elections.
The program aims to encourage young Ghanaians to take an active role in shaping the country’s future and promoting good governance. It is imperative for Ghana’s youth to take heed of Mr. Kufuor’s words and participate actively in the electoral process. By doing so, they can help shape the country’s future and promote good governance.
The event was attended by several personalities including Prof Agyemang Baffuor Duah, CEO of JAK Foundation; H.E. Harriet Thompson, British High Commissioner to Ghana; Dr Pascal Brenya, KSP Coordinator; Nana Ama Oppong Duah, Policy Advisor at JAK Foundation; and Irene Horsham (Esq), Rector, Mountcrest University.
It is crucial for Ghana’s youth to recognize their power as kingmakers and exercise their civic duty by participating in the upcoming election. By doing so, they can help shape a brighter future for themselves and for generations to come.
