Serial Killing In Bole; MP demands Urgent Action
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole, Yusif Sulemana, demands urgent action on the recent surge in serial killings in his constituency. The MP has called on the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, to take immediate action to put an end to the killings, which have led to a self-imposed curfew in the area.
“Even before that, there were serial killings taking different forms. And I think that this is a very important matter and I want to draw your attention to it. So that the interior minister can come to this house and brief us and give some hope to those areas that are affected,” said MP Sulemana.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the MP expressed his concern that the killings have resulted in a state of fear and insecurity among the residents of Bole. He noted that the situation is unsustainable and urged the Interior Minister to come to Parliament to brief them on the measures being taken to address the issue.
“Last night, for instance, Mr Speaker, I decided to take a walk in the Bole Township and by 8:30 pm, almost everyone was asleep. Self-imposed curfew. We cannot continue in this manner,” he said.
The MP’s call was supported by his colleagues, including the MP for Wa Central, Abdul Rasheed Pelpuo, who pointed out that similar incidents are happening in other parts of the country. He emphasized that there have been no arrests made so far and that more needs to be done to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Not much is done to investigate and bring out the murderers and perpetrators of this crime. Some more has to be done. Some investigation has to be made to stretch beyond the limits of the people in the community.

And the interior minister must also sit up. It is becoming too much for him to witness all this and not to tell Ghanaians what is happening,” said MP Pelpuo.
The MP for Nsawam-Adoagyir Constituency and majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, also weighed in on the issue, urging the Speaker of Parliament to invite the Interior Minister to brief the house. He expressed solidarity with his colleagues and emphasized that lives lost are unacceptable.
“You know, these are security matters and often we have to give the minister a notification. Then, before they come to the house, they have to prepare,” said MP Dompreh.
The second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiama Amoako, urged MPs to consult with the Interior Ministry before their briefing to ensure that all relevant information is discussed before coming to the chamber.
“So, if you will be with me, I will wish that probably you seek personal discussion with the ministers. If that will not do, then we can invite the minister next week to come. So, my ruling is that honourable member, try and get a minister and speak with him this week. If that is not possible, next week we will invite the Minister to come and brief the house,” said Deputy Speaker Amoako.
The recent serial killings in Bole have sent shockwaves through the community, with residents living in fear of possible attacks. The MPs’ call for urgent action is a testament to how serious the situation is and highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to address this issue.
As Parliament continues to debate this critical issue, it is clear that there is a growing consensus among MPs that something must be done to restore peace and security in Bole and other parts of the country. It is hoped that the Interior Minister will take immediate action to address these concerns and provide reassurance to those affected.
