TUC Calls for Price Control System to Tame Skyrocketing Food Prices
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has made a strong appeal to the government to introduce a price control system to curb the escalating prices of food items in the market.
According to the Deputy Secretary General of TUC, Joshua Ansah, the current situation is taking a toll on workers and Ghanaians, making it difficult for them to make ends meet.
In an exclusive interview with TV3’s Labour Correspondent, Daniel Opoku, Mr. Ansah lamented that the rising prices of essential goods are unsustainable and are causing untold hardship for many workers.
He cited the example of a basket of tomatoes that used to sell at 100 Ghana cedis, but is now selling at over 200 Ghana cedis.

“How can we expect workers who are earning less than 600 Ghana cedis per month to survive with prices like this?” Mr. Ansah asked rhetorically. “Are we magicians to stay in this country?”
Mr. Ansah emphasized that the government must take immediate action to address the market situation and stabilize prices. He proposed that the government reintroduce price controls to curb the skyrocketing prices of goods.
The TUC is willing to engage in dialogue with the government to find a solution to the economic hardship faced by workers.
The TUC’s call for price control comes at a time when the cost of living is increasing exponentially, with prices of food items, fuel, and other essential commodities skyrocketing.
The situation has left many workers struggling to make ends meet, with many families forced to go without basic necessities.
The TUC’s proposal is not new, as Ghana has a history of using price controls to manage inflation and stabilize the economy.
However, the current situation requires urgent attention and action from the government to alleviate the suffering of workers and Ghanaians.
The government’s response to this call will be keenly watched by workers and civil society organizations, who are demanding tangible solutions to address the economic hardship they are facing.
The TUC’s demand for price controls is a clear indication that something needs to be done urgently to address the suffering of workers and Ghanaians.
