President Mahama hands over 40 new operational vehicles to the Police to support mobility and daily operations

President John Dramani Mahama has given out 40 operational vehicles to the Ghana Police Service. He drew to attention that this is a strong dedication to protect every citizen and keep the country calm and safe.
During a ceremony at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the President John Dramani Mahama stated that the procurement was part of a promise made by his government to upgrade and improve all security agencies. This is to ensure that officers are all prepared to do their job as guardians of the nation.
President Mahama emphasized that “Today, as we hand over these 40 operational vehicles… we are renewing our covenant with the people of Ghana. That this nation will protect its citizens. That peace will be defended, and that Ghana will remain secure, stable, and just.”
The Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, top brass of the security agencies, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and senior police officers attended the ceremony.
The 40 operational vehicles consist of five Cobra-4, 20 Cobra-3 special armoured vehicles and 15 armoured pickups which is described as “operational tools, not symbols.” These are designed for high-risk environments, tough environments and quick action.
President Mahama guava a strong warning in a message to criminal elements by saying “Let me state clearly. Our dear country Ghana will not surrender a single street, a community, or any public space to criminals, today, tomorrow, or forever.”
He continued by adding that “to those who insist on disturbing the peace of our nation… our message is simple. The Ghanaian state is ready. The Ghana police service is ready. The laws of this republic will deal decisively with anyone who endangers the safety of our people.”
President Mahama assured the police officers aware the promise made by the government about their safety. President Mahama also linked past tragedies to the lack of equipment.
The President noted that “Too often, we have lost men in the line of duty because we send them on missions and assignments without providing them with the appropriate equipment to ensure their safety. That is going to be a thing of the past.”
He gave assurance that the government would make sure that officers will return safely to their families by saying that “We will give you the right instruments so that as you do your duty, you also are safe.”
President Mahama disclosed that the 40 operational vehicles were just the first batch. He further stated that by the end of the month, two tow trucks, 10 covert Corvette operational vehicles, and a pickup will be available at every police district.
