Policeman’s ‘Wanted’ killer and others arrested in Ashanti
Michael Owusu Ansah, has been arrested by the Ashanti Central Police Command, who has been on its ‘Wanted List’ since 2016, in relation to the murder of General Corporal Frank Essel of the regional SWAT Unit on 19th May, 2016 at a hotel at Denchemuoso near Kumasi.
Providing information to the media in Kumasi about current operations by the Command, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, highlighted that, the suspect, commonly known as ‘Baby Last’, aged 32, was taken into custody along with four suspects of his armed robbery gang. DSP Godwin Ahianyo, revealed the names of four suspected individuals linked to armed robbery gang as Emmanuel Owusu, alias Cassidy, 30 years, Maxwell Gyimah also known as Nana Kwame, 31, Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah alias The Man Sudais and Rhano Okyere a.k.a. Demon.
One other suspect named only as Abedi, is however wanted by the authorities. The five, who was arrested and detained by a circuit court, were apprehended on the 22nd of last month.
As per the Police PRO, their arrest was caused by a set of armed robberies at Denchemuoso, Atwima Techiman and Asuoyeboah. The gang, he noted, has been using knives, pistols and pump action guns as their weapons which have all been reclaimed. Regarding other law enforcement activities in the area, DSP Shia declared that, an operation by the Airport District Police at Aboabo No.1 last Saturday around 10pm resulted in the detention of a 29-year old man, Adam Mohammed, allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking.
He revealed that, the Police recovered a sum of GH¢66,950 suspected to be funds derived from drug trafficking as well as additional evidence is being held by the police. The Regional Police PRO also revealed the arrest of three armed men named as Umar Issah, 26 years, Sherif Mohammed, 20 and Abdul Jalelu, 19, accused of assaulting and robbing two residents in the Kenyase area operating with multiple motorbikes.
They seized from their victims’ mobile phones which have been retrieved and being used by the Police as exhibits in their prosecution. DSP Ahianyo assured that, the Regional Police Command is positively responding to the challenge by the Interior Minister to take back ‘Tinker’ an area which is part of the Ashanti Newtown suburb of Kumasi being served as a hideout by drug dealers and become a no go area for law abiding people. The Police has reassured the region to trust and cooperate with the police to eliminate criminal activity and safeguard residents.
