Police arrest grandmother and man over abuse of 11-year-old girl

Two persons arrested by the Police at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region linked to the physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl captured in a viral video trending on social media.
Grace Mensah, 75, the grandmother of the victim, and Godfred Osei Akoto, 25, are the suspects and they were seen in the video assaulting the child.
The victim is now safe, while the two suspects have been arrested and given to the care of Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU) to help with current investigations.
A Police report made it clear that during routine cyber patrols, the Police Inspector-General of Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team found a viral video circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms, leading to calls for quick action.
According to preliminary investigations, the video was first posted by a user known as Tina Adjei, with the TikTok handle @tina.adjei7.
The report stated that “The footage showed a young girl being physically assaulted by a young man in the presence of an elderly woman later identified as her grandmother. Acting swiftly, the team proceeded to Agona Jamasi, where a 75-year-old woman, Grace Mensah, was arrested. She identified herself as the grandmother of the victim, an 11-year-old girl, whose name has been withheld.”
The report emphasized that, further investigations, resulted in the arrest of Mr Osei Akoto, the individual seen in the video assaulting the child.
Osei Akoto indicated in his statement to Police that, on December 6, 2025, the victim, who lives together with her grandmother, left the house but didn’t return. He said he later found her around 12:12 a.m. near the Presbyterian School in the area.
The report added that “According to Osei Akoto, the grandmother authorised him to punish the child, an act which resulted in the recording and subsequent circulation of the video on social media. This account was corroborated by Grace Mensah during Police interrogation.”
