Offinso: Trotro mate killed in armed robbery attack
An armed robbery with tragic consequences incident took place on Wednesday, April 23, in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has claimed the life of a bus conductor, commonly known as a ‘trotro mate’.
The assault occurred at the Ayinasusu–Salam road when two individuals pretending to be passengers tried to board a trotro bus. In the process, another individual as a third accomplice came out from nearby bushes and shot the conductor.
Ibrahim Yogo, an Assembly Member for Ayinasusu, confirmed the incident to Citi News, saying the armed robbers then pointed a gun at the driver, asking for a sack claimed to have been handed to him in Wenchi. The attackers fired shots as a warning to intimidate residents, making Ibrahim Yogo to notify the police.
Ibrahim Yogo narrated that “I alerted the police when we heard the gun shots, who rushed to the scene, but the armed robbers had fled when they arrived. This is the first time we have experienced this incident.”
Police have since began investigating to track down the suspect. The incident pointed out the increasing safety worries within the regional transport routes, with increased pressure on authorities to enhance road safety and protect commuters from violent incidents.
