No further action against acting Gold Board CEO after apology – Presidency
The Presidency has officially issued a warning to the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, following a viral video in which he was seen handing out dollar bills to social media figure and church leader, Patricia Asieduaa, widely known as Mama Pat or Agradaa.
The video caused public outcry and raised concerns about the conduct of public officials. Mr Gyamfi later apologised, calling the act an “unfortunate act of indiscretion.” He was then summoned by the Presidency for an explanation.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday, May 14, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced that the matter had been resolved. He confirmed that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, had cautioned Mr Gyamfi after acknowledging his apology.
“So in view of that, the Presidency does not believe that any further actions ought to be taken beyond the apology and the caution,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated.
He further explained that the Chief of Staff had advised Mr Gyamfi to pay attention to public opinion and act in a way that meets the expectations of Ghanaians. “The Chief of Staff cautioned him, having acknowledged the apology he made. He cautioned him and impressed upon him to take on board public sentiment and act in ways that reflect public expectation,” he added.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu noted that while certain behaviours may be acceptable in private life, public officials must maintain higher standards. “We must be sensitive to what Ghanaians expect from us,” he said.
He also mentioned that the government values public feedback and remains committed to holding public officials accountable. “We are aware that Ghanaians expect high standards in the performance of our duties as public officials. We remain committed to meeting those high standards to ensure that we deliver the best of governance to our people who have been long suffering in the last few years under poor governance.”
Sammy Gyamfi, who only recently took on the role of acting CEO, has promised to align his actions with public expectations moving forward.
