Nigerian Man Sets World Record for Longest Video-game Marathon
A 24-year-old Nigerian, Osie Oluwole, has shattered the previous record for the longest video-game marathon by playing soccer game Dream League Soccer 2023 on his iPhone for a whopping 75 hours.
This remarkable achievement has earned him a place in the Guinness World Records (GWR) and has left gamers and non-gamers alike in awe.
“I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest,” Oluwole said in an interview.
“It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun. It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful.”
Oluwole, also known as “Khoded,” registered the impressive time, surpassing the previous record of 50 hours set by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.
To achieve this feat, Oluwole played over 500 matches during his record attempt, accumulating five minutes of rest time after each hour of gaming to eat, nap, or use the toilet.
When asked about his experience playing the game, Oluwole said: “I’ve been an avid fan of Dream League Soccer 2023 since first downloading it in 2016.
I must say it’s one of my favorite games and I’m glad I got to play it for so long during my record attempt.”
What makes Oluwole’s achievement even more remarkable is that he played on his iPhone connected to a TV screen, making him the first gamer to break the record using a mobile device.

Unlike previous record holders who played FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer on consoles or PCs, Oluwole’s dedication to Dream League Soccer 2023 has rewritten the record books.
As a qualified biochemist and car dealer, Oluwole undertook this challenge to raise funds for a local hospital in his hometown of Ijebu Ode. His determination and focus were evident throughout the marathon gaming session.
“I was inspired by Chef Hilda Baci, whose record-breaking cook-a-thon captivated the entire nation of Nigeria last year,” Oluwole explained.
“I wanted to do something similar and make a difference in my community.
I’m grateful that my record attempt has brought attention to the hospital and hopefully will help raise funds for its development.”
Oluwole’s achievement has inspired many, including Seun Adesanya, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who congratulated him on his accomplishment.
“The Guinness World Records honor is a testament to Mr. Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and the countless hours of practice he invested in mastering the game,” Adesanya wrote in a press release.
“This achievement stands as an inspiration to all aspiring gamers and an embodiment of the unyielding spirit of determination that drives our nation,” Adesanya added.
His remarkable feat has cemented his place in the world of gaming and has left fans eager to see what he accomplishes next.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity and I hope to inspire many others to push their limits and strive for greatness,” Oluwole said humbly.
