Some public school students in JHS2 have been spotted wearing Ghana’s new JHS uniform, introduced by the government in April 2019.
Information gathered by Edulearnweb has it that, the government has started the distribution of the new school uniform across the country.
In April 2019, the Ghana Education Service (GES), through its director Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa outdoored the new government uniform.
According to him, the uniform is to aid the students to see themselves as secondary school students in the lower secondary which is found in the basic schools thus JHS1-JHS3. “The idea is for them to start seeing themselves as secondary school students. They are in lower secondary school.” He disclosed in 2019.
The over 30 years old “Aban jersey” was to be replaced by the new JHS uniform effective 2020/2021 academic year for second-year Junior High School (JHS) students.
Features of the (New Aban jersey) new JHS uniform
The new JHS uniform has the Ghana flag, a certificate, a graduating cap, and a set of books superimposed on vertical stripes or lines. The flag of Ghana (Red, Yellow, and Green with the black star) is positioned on the breast pocket of the shirt for both boys and girls. The certificate denotes the graduation of the student from the Junior High School and is printed on the upper left and right of the uniform. However, each uniform and how these symbols are positioned since they are manually sawn.
These uniforms may be supplied to students through schools at no cost to the students unless the government decides to supply at a discounted price. Many Ghanaian parents raised concerns when the new JHS uniform was unveiled in April 2019.
