National Black Nurses Association Scholarships: Funding Opportunities for Nursing Students

The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) is a professional organization that represents black nurses in the United States.
One of the many benefits of joining the NBNA is the opportunity to apply for a variety of scholarships offered by the association. The NBNA offers scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 to students at all levels, from LPN to Doctorate.
To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must be members of the NBNA and a member of a local chapter (if one exists in their area). If there is no local chapter within a 50-mile radius of their location, they may join the NBNA as a Direct Member. Applicants must also be currently enrolled in a nursing program, such as LPN/LVN, ADN, RN-BSN, Generic BSN, Masters, or Doctorate, and in good academic standing at the time of application. Additionally, applicants must have at least one full year of school remaining.
The NBNA offers a wide range of scholarships, including the Abbott Scholarship Fund, Arizona College of Nursing Scholarship, Aya Healthcare Nurses of Tomorrow Scholarship, BAND AID® BRAND Black Healthcare Heroes in Nursing Scholarship, Dr. Daisy Harmon-Allen Scholarship, Dr. Eric J. Williams Scholarship, Dr. Kenya Williams Health Policy Leadership Scholarship, and many more.
To apply for a scholarship, applicants must submit an official transcript(s) from an accredited School of Nursing, a two-page/500-word maximum personal statement/essay, two letters of recommendation (one from Dean/Faculty member and one from Chapter President/Vice President), a resume or CV, a letter from the Registrar verifying enrollment and expected graduation date, and a clean/clear professional headshot.
Additional items to accompany the application in support of the candidate’s eligibility and desirability may also be required.
The NBNA scholarship application deadline is April 15, 2023. Scholarship recipients are announced at the NBNA’s Annual Institute & Conference. If you have any questions, you can email staff@nbna.org. For more information and to access the scholarship application and membership application, please visit the NBNA’s website.
