Mubarak Wakaso Set to Join Accra Hearts of Oak.
Accra Hearts of Oak, the second most decorated club in Ghana, is set to make another transfer move of bringing a legend of the Ghana national team into their squad. Accra Hearts, who were seen in the 2022 Ghana Premier League campaign, registered AC Milan and Ghana Black Stars legend Sulley Munatri to play for them just before the midfielder retired from international football. The seasoned midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, with a high level of experience from top European leagues and also Asia, is currently reported to have signed with the Ghanaian football giants Accra Hearts of Oak.
Mubarak Wakaso, born on the 25th of July, 1990, started his football career with Ashanti Gold, who formerly were playing in the Ghanaian top flight but were later removed after they were seen by the GFA in a betting act in one of their league games. His performance in the Ghana Premier League saw him make a move to Elche in Spain. He then moved to other clubs like Villarreal, Espanyol, Las Palmas, and even Celtic, all in Europe, before moving to the Chinese side Shenzhen in 2023. He has always been a key figure for the Black Stars, registering a total of 70 caps and 13 goals to his name.
Reports from the local media can suggest that the Black Stars legend, who has not been with a club since his stint with Chinese side Shenzhen in 2023, is expected to join Accra Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League. Hearts of Oak, being Ghana’s second most decorated club and currently sixth on the Ghana Premier League table, will be needing his services to make sure they win the league title. Recent posts on various social media outlets, such as X, have it that the Accra-based club is yet to reach an agreement with the 34-year-old player. Considering his issues with his knee injuries, the club is likely to select him to play in high-profile matches.
Mubarak Wakaso can use this opportunity to rejuvenate his career and can end up playing for some of the big teams in Europe again. His experience from Europe will also be a good addition to Coach Ouattara’s team and can be seen mentoring some of the young players in the team.
