Mother of 2 tortures 11-year-old maid to death over masturbation

The suspect said that the maid, who was a teenager, liked to masturbate and that she was punishing her to get her to stop.

A woman with two children, whose name has not been made public, killed her 11-year-old maid, Margaret Joshua, by torturing her.

The suspect, a microbiologist at one of the research institutes in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, is said to have forced Joshua to sit in a container full of hot water.

It was found that the hot water burned the teenager’s buttocks, and on November 14, 2022, she died in the hospital.

It was found that the woman who was attacked was from Kebbi State. She had left her community because it was unsafe, and a person who said they were helping her took her to Jos to work in the suspect’s family home.

A source says that the suspect not only beat the dead girl, but she also wouldn’t let her go to school after she took her.

Grace Pam, the Plateau State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), whose office is looking into the assault case, said that based on the number of scars and wounds on the dead woman’s body, the mother of two must-have tortured her while she was with the family.

Her words: “On Monday, a hospital worker told us about the situation. She said that an 11-year-old girl in Vom had been severely beaten and hurt by her guardian.

“The girl was covered with scars and burns. We heard that she was first taken to the Mandela hospital in Kaduna Vom before being sent to Jos.

“When some of our staff met the suspect at the Police Station in Vom, where she was being held, she admitted to beating her. She said the girl used to masturbate, so she was punishing her, so she would stop.

“She said she didn’t know what made her hit the child because she always felt bad afterward.”

While investigations are still going on, the assault case has been moved from the Police Station in Kaduna Vom to the Police Headquarters in Jos.
