Minority caucus Notifies Police Of #OccupyBoGProtest on July 30
The Minority caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has formally notified the Ghana Police Service of their intention to stage a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
The motive for this demonstration is about demanding the resignation of Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the BoG and his two deputies.
The protest is set to take place in Accra, specifically within the Greater Accra Region.
According to a letter addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command by Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, the demonstration is scheduled to begin promptly at 8 am and conclude by 6 pm.
The chosen venue for this demonstration is Obra Spot, located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where protesters will gather before marching through Adabraka towards Kingsway and culminating their procession at the frontage of the Bank of Ghana headquarters.
The Minority caucus has expressed strong concerns about the ongoing construction of the BoG’s new head office in North Ridge, which has sparked widespread apprehension among its members.

In their notification to the police, they emphasized that their demand for Dr. Addison’s resignation is not limited to him alone, but also extends to all current members of the BoG’s board.
This development has sparked controversy and raised eyebrows among many Ghanaians, with some questioning the motivations behind the Minority caucus’s decision.
However, the caucus remains resolute in their stance, citing what they perceive as a lack of transparency and accountability in the management of Ghana’s economy under Dr. Addison’s leadership.
The Minority caucus has long been critical of Dr. Addison’s appointment as Governor of the BoG, citing concerns about his lack of experience in central banking and his perceived close ties to the ruling government.
These concerns have only intensified in recent times, particularly with regards to the ongoing construction project at North Ridge.
As tensions continue to simmer, it remains to be seen how this demonstration will play out and what impact it will have on Ghana’s economic landscape.
Will Dr. Addison and his deputies heed the Minority caucus’s demands? Only time will tell.
