Marriage is between a man and a woman- President Mahama stated.
President John Dramani Mahama has reconfirmed his opinion for the Anti- LGBTQ+ Bill, stating that the only two legitimate genders are male and female.
In a speech to Accra’s Clergy fellowship on Friday February 28th, 2025, President Mahama reaffirmed his dedication to what he described as essential principles of Ghanaian society.
Mahama stated that “ I believe in the principles and values that only two genders exist -man and woman. And that marriage is between a man and a woman”. He was also drawing signs of affirmation from the religious leaders who attended.
He also revealed the current consultation with the Speaker of Parliament to revive the Proper Family Values Bill, intending to prohibit the activities of LGBTQ+ in our country Ghana. Base on the information from President John Mahama, the bill previously passed the eighth Parliament requires endorsement by the government rather than making it as a private member’s motion.
He said that “It is my hope that the consultation will lead to a renewed Proper Family Values Bill”. The bill which forbids the promotion, backing and the LGBTQ+ funding activities took effects following parliamentary passage which did not receive presidential approval under the previous administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
Citing Ecclesiastes 9:11, he stressed that the role of divine guidance in leadership encourages various religious leaders to keep on backing his administration with prayers and moral counsel. He declared that “As Christian leaders, you’re the spiritual backbone of our country”.
Economic Goals and National Development
President John Mahama discussed Ghana’s economic problems, outlining his commitment towards his administration to rebuilding stability and job creation.
“Our expedited priority is to make the economy stable and restore confidence in Ghana. We will make our currency stable, bring down interest rates, improve our financial standing, reduce deficit and inflation as well” as Mahama declared.
Mahama also stressed on his 24 hour economy policy, explaining it as innovative initiative geared towards job creation, especially in agriculture, development, agribusiness and manufacturing.
He said “A nation that is not self reliant won’t prosper. That’s why making bold intervention in the agriculture l industry. By agricultural innovation in farming techniques, supporting farmers and agro processing investment, we will establish a strong base for a successful future”.
