Man marries his biological mother after impregnating her

According to a report by the Daily Express, a man from Zimbabwe has taken the extraordinary as he marries his biological mother after she became pregnant with his child.

The couple, both of whom profess to be deeply in love, decided to formalize their relationship by getting married.

The unusual decision came about when they considered the circumstances: Betty Mbereko, a 40-year-old widow from Mwenezi in Masvingo, is six months pregnant with her son’s child, who will also be her grandchild. Betty has been a widow for 12 years, raising her 23-year-old son, Farai Mbereko, on her own since her husband’s death.

Betty confirmed her pregnancy and explained her rationale for marrying her son. She expressed a strong aversion to the idea of marrying her late husband’s younger brothers, who she claimed had shown inappropriate interest in her.

For Betty, marrying Farai seemed like a better option. After investing heavily in her son’s education and upbringing, she feels entitled to his support and does not want to see another woman benefit from her sacrifices.

“Look, I struggled alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong,” Betty explained to the village court council. She added, “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat.”

Farai, on his part, is equally committed to this unconventional union. He has declared his readiness to marry his mother and take on the responsibilities traditionally expected of a husband, including paying off the outstanding bride price for his mother.

Farai acknowledges that his father died before completing this customary obligation.

“I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price, and I am prepared to pay it off,” Farai stated. He emphasized the importance of transparency regarding their situation, noting, “It is better to publicize what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise, they will accuse her of promiscuity.”

This relationship has stirred considerable controversy and debate within their community and beyond.

It challenges societal norms and legal boundaries, raising questions about the limits of personal freedom and the nature of familial relationships.

From a cultural perspective, their decision to marry is especially provocative.

Many traditional societies place a high value on maintaining clear boundaries between different family roles, and the idea of a mother marrying her son is considered taboo.
