Let’s be Honest About the Ghana Card Capabilities

Joyce Bawa Mogtari, an assistant to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has shared a contrasting account regarding the Ghana Card capabilities or being used as a travel document.

According to her, the government has been deceiving the citizens of Ghana by claiming that the Ghana Card can be used for travel purposes.

Joyce Bawa has personally encountered two situations where the card was rejected and her passport was required instead. She believes that it is essential for the government to be honest with the people they serve.

I would like to share my personal encounter with the Ghana Card as a travel document. I have made two attempts to utilize it in London, once at the US border, and recently in Lagos. Unfortunately, it proved to be ineffective in all of these instances. It is disheartening to witness our politicians persistently promoting the notion that the Ghana Card can serve as an international travel document, despite its evident impracticality. It is high time for genuine transparency and accountability regarding the capabilities of the Ghana Card.

However, in December, Lawyer Chris Vincent, a resident of London, shared a different account regarding the Ghana card. He recounted an incident where his friend, who had lost his Ghanaian passport and did not possess a visa to Ghana in his British passport, was able to rely on the Ghana Card. Initially, there were concerns about whether the card would be accepted as a valid travel document.

However, to their surprise, the friend successfully checked-in at Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport using the Ghana Card. Agyapong, who witnessed the incident, confirmed that Vice President Bawumia’s claims about the effectiveness of the Ghana Card were accurate.
