Issuance of printed backlog of Ghana Cards begins in Greater Accra Region
Following months of expectation and increasing discontent, the National Identification Authority (NIA) has declared a significant effort to clear the backlog of unissued Ghana Cards and start up new registration in the Greater Accra Region.
As announced in a press release on Sunday, the Authority said it will commence on Monday, April 7, and all its District Offices in the Greater Accra region “will begin issuing cards to Ghanaians who applied between June 2023 and now but have yet to receive them.”
This highly anticipated move is set to bring relief to thousands who were subject to postponement in acquiring their Ghana Cards essential for accessing everything the government offers to financial transactions.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) gave applicants assurance that they can now return to their various District Office where they registered atthe first to collect their cards.
In addition, all Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who are not yet registered for the Ghana Card are advised to visit any National Identification Authority (NIA) District Office in the Greater Accra Region starting April 7, to get registered.
The NIA stated that “From Monday, anyone in the Greater Accra Region who has not yet enrolled for the Ghana Card is encouraged to visit a District Office and complete the registration process—free of charge.”
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has also given a strong warning that ” no fees are to be paid for card issuance or first-time registration.”
The public is encouraged to report any NIA staff who charge for these services. “However, replacement cards and updates to personal records will still attract a fee, as previously stipulated.”
