IAA builds capacity of internal auditors on new global internal audit standards
Accra, Ghana – March 25, In a bid to enhance the skills and knowledge of internal auditors nationwide, the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) recently spearheaded a two-day capacity-building workshop.
The primary focus of this training was to sensitize participants on the requirements of the latest global internal audit standards.
The inaugural day of the training workshop unfolded today across various locations in Accra, where the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, took the stage to address the eager participants.
In his address, Dr. Osae provided invaluable insights and guidance, urging internal auditors to steer clear of certain detrimental habits that could hinder their effectiveness in this vital role.
Dr. Osae’s speech emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of professionalism and diligence in the field of internal auditing.
He underlined the significance of embracing the new global internal audit standards as a means to enhance the credibility and efficiency of internal audit processes across organizations.
As the dawn of a new era in internal auditing beckons, Dr. Osae’s words serve as a poignant reminder of the pivotal role internal auditors play in ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance within their respective organizations.
The IAA’s boss disclosed that the training is the beginning of a nationwide training that will sensitize all internal auditors across the country on the new global internal audit standards.
“By the time, we finish, we expect to train not less than 2,000 internal auditors who would be well placed to support Ghana to report using the new international reporting standard so that Ghana’s internal audit system will be in line with that of every other country across the world”.
Dr. Osae cautioned against the attitude of some heads of institutions who are bent on recruiting, promoting, and reassigning internal auditors without recourse to the internal audit agency, an act that goes contrary to the country’s financial management regulations, and subsequently warned them to discontinue the practice.
“If you don’t involve your audit committee and the internal audit agency in the recruitment, promotion, and reassignment of internal auditors, the internal audit agency is mandated under our law to nullify the entire process”.
By equipping auditors with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the evolving landscape of internal audit standards, the IAA is paving the way for a brighter and more robust future in the realm of auditing.
The capacity-building workshop continues tomorrow, promising to delve deeper into the intricacies of the new global internal audit standards.
As internal auditors gear up to embrace these standards and elevate their practices to new heights, the IAA remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering excellence and professionalism within the auditing community.
