“I was born blind” – Singer, Chidinma reveals

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter turned music minister, Chidinma Ekile, has revealed that she was born blind.
Chidinma, who quit secular music to become a gospel artist in 2021, made this revelation in a video on her YouTube page.

She said her condition was a big challenge for her parents, especially after everything they tried medically to get her to gain her sight proved abortive.
According to Chidinma, her parents eventually turned to God after medical efforts proved abortive, and miraculously, she gained her sight.
She said after gaining her sight, her mum made a deal with God without her knowledge and dedicated her to Him.
“I was born blind actually, I didn’t open my eyes at all, and that became a challenge. My parents tried all that they could to get me to see. Without my knowledge, my mum made a deal with God,” she said.

The 32-year-old spoke passionately about the experience as well as her newfound journey in gospel music.
On her birth, she said, “I was born blind actually, I didn’t open my eyes at all, and that became a challenge. My parents tried all that they could to get me to see. Without my knowledge, my mum made a deal with God.”
Speaking on her choice to switch to the gospel genre and become born-again was a divine calling from God.
According to Chidinma,
“Well, it has been ordained. It was actually a prophecy, so I was going to get here anyway. Though there was a time I wasn’t sure eventually I knew I was going to get there and what’s the better time than now?”
Chidinma also encouraged her fans to anticipate the intervention of the divine in her songs.
”Fans should expect the move of God. Yes, I’m going to do the music but most importantly, I’m here because of God. So, expect the move of God and expect to be blessed,” she said.
“The journey so far has been quite challenging. I’ve had to go through a whole lot of submission, prayer, and spending time with God. Prior to that, we all know how it has been before, and as I said, it is God who ordained that I’ll be a minister of the Gospel and this is just the right time for me to step into it.
“So, the journey has kind of prepared me for this season, for this particular time. So, I’m here to do God’s work”.
Chidinma gained recognition in 2010 by winning the well-known reality talent contest ‘Project Fame’.
She was propelled further into the limelight in 2012 with the release of her hit record “Kedike”.
In 2021, however, Chidinma gained attention for her decision to leave mainstream music
