Ghanaian soldier who rejected galamsey bribe gets promotion and UN posting

Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, the young soldier who was not long ago commemorated by a security agency for refusing a bribe from illegal miners (galamsey operators), has been given a higher position by the Ghana Armed Forces.
At an inclusive council durbar organised at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp in Accra, on Friday, July 11, 2025, Private Teye-Tsu, at this moment in time with the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, was upgraded to the rank of Lance Corporal with direct consequence by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS).
In the content of reward package, he has also been selected to be in service with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. Additional, he was introduced with another commendation for his honesty. Honouring him at the great turnout event, which enticed top military brass, the CDS, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, requested workforce to always confirm their sworn statement to the state and behave in a professional manner.
“Although misconducts will invite penalities, professionalism such as that of L/Cpl Teye-Tsu will invite reward and honour,” he said.
It will be remembered that L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, 30, was on security guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mines end of last year when he came across a group of handicraft miners who tried to bribe him with a huge amount of money as a substitute for entry to their illegal mining pits.
Guided and influenced by his loyal tendency to contribute to national attempts to stop the tide of illegal mining ( galamsey) and its dangerous effects on the environment, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu not only refused to take the bribe but also quickly arrested the illegal miners and gave them over to the authorities for trial.
Fascinated by his generous and loyal act, the management of Ojeyz Security Limited, the private company giving protection at the site, commemorated him as a brilliant superstar.
A honourable mention that went along with the reward, with the theme“Outstanding Staff Recognition,” and signed by the Chief Executive and Founder of the security firm, Capt. Haruna Adamu (Rtd), read in part:
“In admiring and regarding of your meritorious performance and steady commitment to delivering excellent service, Ojeyz Security Management is deeply grateful to your competence and top-notch service delivery.”
L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, who joined in the Ghana Armed Forces in 2023, come from from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region. He is an graduate of Manya Krobo Senior High School and King David College, both situated in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. He is also a member of the Krobo-based youth network, Kloma Gbi (Voice of the Krobo States).
