GFA Bolsters Black Stars Technical Team

The Ghana Football Association appoints 5 new members to the technical team of the Black Stars ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association GFA later today announced that they have appointed new faces to the technical team of the Black Stars to help in the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament.
The Ghana Football Association president, Kurt Okraku, promised the public days ago that there will be new additions to the technical team of the Black Stars to help in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
These newly appointed members of the technical team are highly experienced professionals who are expected to work together with the head coach, Otto Addo at the upcoming World Cup.
Alain Ravera has been named as the assistant coach. The 60-year-old experienced coach will be expected to bring significant experience to the team, having served as the assistant coach for the Guinean national team and also AS Monaco in the top tier of France.
Kim Lars Björkegren is also expected to join the technical team of the Black Stars as an assistant coach. The Swede, who had already been appointed by the Ghana Football Association as the head coach of the Black Queens, the senior women’s team, is expected to join the Black Stars technical team. He led the Black Queens to finish third in the last Women’s African Cup of Nations in 2025.
The appointment of both Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Björkegren as assistant coaches doesn’t mean that both John Paintsil and Desmond Offei have been sacked from their positions but rather that the Black Stars technical team is getting four assistant coaches.
José Daniel Martínez Alfonso, who is a Spaniard, has been appointed by the FA as a video analyst who will oversee the recording and evaluation of recorded training footage, analyze team tactics, and scout opponents for their strengths and weaknesses. He is currently the assistant coach video analyst of Atalanta FC in the Major League Socer in the United States having already served as analsyt for teams like Malmo and also UD Almeria in Spain.
Carlos Lozano Romero has also been reappointed as the team’s physiotherapist. Carlos Lozano Romero had previously worked with the team in the 2022 World Cup, which was held in Qatar.
And finally, the appointment of British-born Ghanaian performance specialist Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, who has been appointed performance coach.
The Black Stars of Ghana are expected to play four international friendly games before the start of the World Cup. Two of the games have already been confirmed by the FA, with the remaining two remaining.
The Black Stars qualified for the 2026 World Cup by securing pole position in Group I after accumulating a total of 25 points. And we’re drawn in Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama. Ghana will be playing their first game at the World Cup with Panama before playing England and Croatia, respectively.
