Foster Apetorgbor of Nsoatreman FC was on trial with Germany Club Bayer Leverkusen last month.
Some excellent talent for the global market is still being developed by Ghana’s top flight league. Following a successful and impressive trial, Dreams FC’s Abdul Aziz Issah and David Oduro, who played for the Accra Lions in the past, were signed by Barcelona team B in Spain early this year. This made them the first two Ghanaians to move to the Barcelona team directly from the Ghana Premier League on a permanent basis. A young player from Albert Somuah Kumasi Asante Kotoko was also loaned to Celta Vigo, another Spanish team, earlier this year. The most recent to make headlines is Foster Apetorgbor, a youthful winger from Nsoatreman FC.
The football career of Foster Apetorgbor is nothing short of inspiring. Although he was a final-year student who took his WASSCE this year, the young player has been one of Nsoatreman FC’s most impressive players in the Ghanaian top flight. International scouts were drawn to the winger’s speed, agility, ball control, and dribbling abilities. He was subsequently asked to try out for Bayern04 Leverkusen’s youth team in Germany last month. Foster had the chance to demonstrate his skills to the German club during the trial, which took place last month.
Per reports, Bayern04 Leverkusen is not the only European team that has seen young Foster’s potential, according to the player’s sources. However, it has not yet been decided whether Bayer Leverkusen would extend an offer to him for a professional contract. Ghanaians making direct moves from the Ghana Premier League to top international clubs underscore the high quality and competitiveness of the league. The GPL has produced some great talents for the country in the likes of Thomas Partey, Asamoah Gyan, Charles Taylor, and others.
