Electoral Commission, NIA have the green light to work
EC and NIA now have the green light to carry out their constitutional mandates with the easing of restriction as announced by the President during his 10th address to the nation.
The president of Ghana is Nana Akufo-Addo said “constitutional and statutory bodies such as the Electoral Commission, the National Commission for Civic Education and the National Identification Authority, whose activities were exempted from the outset from these restrictions, must conduct their
activities under social distancing and the necessary hygiene and safety protocols.
This means the Electoral Commission and National Identification Authority can now commence their registration activities aimed at facilitating preparations toward the 2020 general elections scheduled for December 7th 2020.

While the National Identification Authority is to register citizens for the NIA card, the Electoral Commission is expected to compile a new voter register ahead of the elections.
The president has also directed that public education of the protocols on public gatherings are also intensified.
He called on all state that regulatory agencies to undertake random checks to ensure conformity with these rules, and the security services will be tasked to enforce them. Should any institution fail to adhere to these directives, its activity will be immediately prohibited, and relevant sanctions applied.
