Ederson To Miss Manchester City’s Final Matches Due To Eye-Injury
Manchester City’s goalkeeper Ederson is set to miss the title-deciding match against West Ham United for the English Premier League and the FA Cup final after suffering a fractured eye socket injury in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
Ederson suffered the injury in a collision with Cristian Romero in the second half of the match, which returned Manchester City to the top of the table and kept them in control of their title challenge.
The Brazilian goalkeeper underwent scans of the affected area, which revealed a small fracture to the right eye socket.
As a result, Ederson will not be able to play any further part in the remaining games of the 2023/24 season.
The injury is a major blow to Manchester City, as they need to beat West Ham to claim a fourth successive title or match Arsenal’s result at home to Everton.

However, Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola has praised substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who came on to replace Ederson on Tuesday and made some crucial saves, including a one-on-one stop from Son Heung-min in the 86th minute.
Ortega has played an important role for Manchester City this season, replacing Ederson four times due to injuries.
Guardiola has praised his German goalkeeper’s talent, saying that he is “one of the best ‘keepers I’ve ever seen in my life”.
Ortega has also played in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and Guardiola believes that he will be able to step up and fill the void left by Ederson’s injury.
“He defined, I would say, how the team is a team,” Guardiola said. “Ortega saved the actions otherwise Arsenal would be champions.”
The news of Ederson’s injury is a significant blow to Manchester City’s title hopes, but it is not all bad news.
Ortega has shown that he is capable of stepping up and filling the void left by Ederson’s injury, and Guardiola has praised his talent and reliability.
As Manchester City prepare for their title-deciding match against West Ham United, they will be relying on Ortega to make crucial saves and help them claim their fourth successive title.
