Good News! ECG announces stable power supply
Following the calls for ECG to release a detailed Dumsor timetable, service management has announced a stable power supply across the country. It further indicated that 70% of the power outages experienced in the country result from its planned maintenance works.
The Electricity Company of Ghana, in an announcement shared on its social media platforms on March 29, 2024, stated that the institution has fixed the issue that was causing power outages in the country.
The ECG has stated that the power outages that occurred in the first two and a half months of this year were due to the ongoing maintenance work of the company. The ECG disclosed this while responding to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). The call by PURC for ECG to release a Dumsor timetable. The PURC also indicated that if the ECG failed to provide the public with a load schedule, it could lead to sanctions being imposed on the ECG.
The ECG broke the news on March 29th, 2024 through its social media platforms. However, before this update, the ECG had been under attack following the unstable power supply and the absence of a Dumsor timetable, which made it unpredictable for Ghanaians to know when they would experience an unannounced Dumsor.
According to the post by ECG, it had achieved enviable stability in power supply across the nation.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that we have a stable national power supply (stable national grid),” the statement read.
It further apologized to Ghanaians for all the challenges the erratic power supply brought to them. It further called on all communities still having power outages to call its office for the needed rectification.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience, and we wish you a happy Easter. Any customer who is currently experiencing a power outage is due to a localized fault. Please call our contact centre for immediate action to fix the outage and restore power supply,” part of the announcement read.
ECG announces stable power supply: Capacity Issues
In a related development, there will be a reliable capacity of 4,756 MW ready for the grid to fulfil the estimated system peak demand of 3,788 MW according to the Ghana Energy Commission’s 2024 forecast.

However, the capacity might decrease by some 356 MW as a result of ongoing planned maintenance for generating units and the fuel supply situation.
