Curfew Imposed on Sampa Township in Jaman North District of Bono Region
The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey, has imposed a curfew on Sampa Township in Jaman North District of the Bono Region, effective Thursday, June 6, 2024.
The curfew, which will be in place from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am each day, was imposed following a series of chieftaincy disputes in the area.
The decision to impose the curfew was taken on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council and by the Executive Instrument.
According to a statement issued by the Government, the curfew focus at preventing further violence and maintaining peace in the area.
The Government has also urged Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area.
The statement emphasized that violence is not an option and that the law will deal with any acts of violence.
In addition to the curfew, there is also a total ban on all persons in Sampa Township from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons.
Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted. This move is aimed at preventing further escalation of the chieftaincy disputes and ensuring that the area remains peaceful.
The Government has also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities or persons to the security agencies.
The statement emphasized that the Government is committed to maintaining peace and order in the country and will not hesitate to take decisive action to ensure that peace is maintained.
The people of Sampa Township and surrounding areas are advised to stay indoors during the curfew period and to avoid any activities that may provoke violence or breach of the peace.
The Government is working closely with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to resolve the chieftaincy disputes and ensure that peace is maintained in the area.
It is worth noting that this is not an isolated incident, as there have been several reports of chieftaincy disputes in various parts of the country.
The Government is committed to addressing these issues and ensuring that peace and order are maintained throughout the country.
