Recently Nigerian Court Grants Mohbad’s Family Permission to Conduct a Second Autopsy. According to news, the family of the late 27-year-old Nigerian singer is still tirelessly seeking justice for their son’s untimely demise, even ten months after his passing.
Despite the first autopsy report conducted on Mohbad’s lifeless body failing to provide any answers regarding the cause of his death, the family remains steadfast in their refusal to accept the inconclusive findings.
Mohbad tragically lost his life on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that have sparked controversy and speculation. As we approach the one-year mark since his passing, conflicting reports surrounding the cause of his death continue to surface, leaving his loved ones in a state of uncertainty and anguish.
Finally, a glimmer of hope emerges as a court has granted the family permission to proceed with a second autopsy. This decision comes as a result of the family’s deep dissatisfaction with the initial autopsy results, which left them with more questions than answers.
In their relentless pursuit of justice and the truth, Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, and transferred to the capable hands of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for a thorough examination.

The family’s unwavering determination to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic demise serves as a testament to their love for him and their refusal to let his memory fade away without seeking the truth.
Court Grants Mohbad’s Family Permission for the first autopsy, which began in September 2023, was finally released on 7 June, but unfortunately, it failed to provide a definitive cause of death.
The inconclusive nature of the autopsy results can be attributed to the advanced decomposition of the body and the potential effects of medications that the deceased had taken prior to his passing.
In light of these uncertainties, the Aloba family, on 16 June, called upon the Lagos State Government to verify the authenticity of the autopsy due to the doubts and conflicting reports circulating among the public.
Furthermore, Mohbad’s family appealed to the presiding magistrate of the coroner’s inquest to ensure that an independent toxicology report is submitted to the court before the final report is presented to the authorities.
The purpose of the coroner’s inquest is to establish the identity of the deceased, as well as the time, cause, and manner of death. However, the initial autopsy has thus far failed to provide a conclusive cause of death.
During a hearing at a magistrate court in Ikorodu on Wednesday, Mohbad’s family and their legal representatives were granted permission to proceed with a second autopsy, which was met with the presence of PREMIUM TIMES at a subsequent press conference.
At the press conference, the family and their legal team confirmed that they had received authorization from the court to carry out the additional autopsy.
The Aloba family has been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the initial autopsy findings and has insisted on an independent post-mortem examination and toxicology test.

The first autopsy, which was conducted with the involvement of the state government, did not yield conclusive results, leading to doubts about the authenticity of the toxicology test allegedly conducted in the United States. However, the US lab later denied conducting such a test.
Now, with the court’s decision, the family has been granted permission to conduct a private independent autopsy, which they expressed gratitude for during the press conference held on Wednesday.

When asked about the timeline for the completion of the second autopsy, Grace Shorinde, a representative of the Aloba family, expressed their concerns. “Considering the ongoing coroner inquest, we are already bound by time,” she stated.
“We must obtain the results before 7th August, regardless of what steps we take. After the conclusion of the coroner’s inquest, our legal team approached Joseph Aloba, who stressed the urgency of taking action based on the information received.”
She further affirmed, “Those who were advocating for the immediate burial of Mohbad now understand that it cannot take place until the cause of death is determined. This determination must occur between now and 7th August.”
