Bawumia engages in “rush-talk: Edudzi Tameklo
Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his tendency to engage in “rush-talk.” Tameklo claimed that this trait exposed Bawumia’s lack of understanding of public policies. Specifically, Tameklo cited the $2 billion Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) deal with Sinohydro Corporation Limited, a Chinese state-run firm, which Bawumia led the government in striking.
Tameklo argued that despite warnings from the Minority that the deal would incur debts, Bawumia claimed that members of the opposition party do not read. Tameklo stated that the deal has indeed contributed to the country’s debt.
He also criticized Bawumia’s Gold for Oil policy, claiming that he has failed to provide crucial details about the program.
Bawumia recently announced that the current reduction in fuel prices at the pumps is due to the Gold for Oil deal, which is in its third month. He stated that the policy will yield a positive impact and lead to a reduction in petroleum product prices.
He claimed that the country will make annual savings of $4.8 billion, which will accelerate economic development. However, some experts, including political risk analyst Dr. Theo Acheampong, disagree with Bawumia’s claim.
They argue that the current reduction in petroleum prices is not necessarily attributable to the Gold for Oil policy. Acheampong also claimed that gold-for-oil products are selling at higher prices compared to existing products on the market.
Furthermore, he stated that Bulk Oil Distributing Companies (BDCs) that did not participate in the policy are selling at lower prices.

“The savings in foreign exchange when we do, this will be an annual savings of $4.8 billion every year and that means the oil importing companies will not be going to the Bank of Ghana looking for $4.8 billion to buy oil”, he said.
