Painter accused of stealing cables from Bank of Ghana granted GH₵1 million bail 

Charges that were laid on a painter of stealing electrical wire at the Bank of Ghana building at Ridge, the painter has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court. 

Ahmed Mohammed Lawal paid a sum of GHC 1 million cedis with two guarantees before granted bail. The Judge in charge, Mr. Issac Addo instructed that the Prosecution to follow with the rules of disclosures. The case has been postponed to May 7, 2025.

Ahmed Mohammed Lawal has been penalize with stealing electrical cables and illicit entry with an amount of GH₵1,035,500. Lawal has debunk the plcharge. 

Initially, prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agustin Kingsley Oppong made it clear to the Court that the accusers in the case, Davidson Mensah Otinkorang and Samuel Nii Tettey, were electrical engineer and safety officer respectively by profession, at the new Bank of Ghana Building, which was under construction.

On February 16, 2025, prosecution said, the accuser notified that someone had had illegal access into the Energy Farm at the site and took away quantities of 1c x240 and 1cx 300 square of copper cables which all costed at GH₵1,035,500. 

The Litigation made it clear to the Court that with the help of CCTV, they saw the accuser and two others who were stealing the copper cables from the Energy Farm. Bundles of the electrical cables were stored at the place. The Prosecutor mentioned that, the accusers arrested the accused and brought him to the police.

The accused and the other two, illegally entered into the Energy Farm by means of a structure, where they cut the copper cables with a sharp object and carried them away, this was known during the investigation. According to the investigation, the accused sold the stolen cables to someone at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and he gained GHC2,000 as his share.
