List of Ghana’s 2023 top 10 imports

Based on latest trade report released by the Ghana Statistical Service, I will share with you List of Ghana’s 2023 top 10 imports.
In the year 2023 alone, Ghana spent GH¢ 180.7 Billion on imports and the leading source of import was China, with an import value of GH₵33.9 billion.
India and the United Arab Emirates were also cited as primary sources of imports from Asia.
Shea nuts, second-hand vehicles, petroleum products (diesel, super, light oils), and cereal grains were some of the items Ghana imported the most in the year 2023.

Newsghana24 highlights the commodities that made up Ghana’s top 10 imports in 2023:
Diesel – automotive gas oil (AGO)
The import value for this was pegged at GH₵27,124,156,236 with share of imports, 15.0%
Light oils, motor spirit, super
Its import value was estimated at GH₵22,306,927,869 with its share of imports representing 12.3%.

Cement clinkers
Import value was GH₵3,181,100,871
. Medium oils, Kerosine type jet fuel (ATK)
Import value was GH₵2,775,951,499
Cereal grains. The import value was GH₵2,731,537,768
Secondhand vehicles with engine sizes ranging between 1500cc to 3000cc

Import value for this goods was GH₵2,511,977,822
Herbicides, anti-sprouting products and plant-growth regulators
Import value was GH₵2,285,925,048
Self-propelled bulldozers
Import value was GH₵2,274,925,130
Rice, semi-milled or wholly milled rice, packaged 5kg or bulk
Import value was GH₵2,025,747,980
Shea nuts (karate nuts)
Import value cost GH₵2,018,979,619
All other products combined cost GH₵111,435,416,578, accounting for 61.7% of total imports.
Total imports in 2023 hit GH₵180,672,646,419 (100%).
In 2022, Ghana was the number 77 economy in the world in terms of GDP (current US$), the number 79 in total exports, the number 87 in total imports, the number 147 economy in terms of GDP per capita (current US$) and the number 122 most complex economy according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI) .
EXPORTS
The top exports of Ghana are Gold ($9.53B), Crude Petroleum ($5.21B), Cocoa Beans ($1.08B), Coconuts, Brazil Nuts, and Cashews ($501M), and Cocoa Paste ($450M), exporting mostly to United Arab Emirates ($4.72B), Switzerland ($3.37B), United States ($2.83B), India ($2.04B), and China ($2.01B).
IMPORTS
The top imports of Ghana are Refined Petroleum ($1.79B), Coated Flat-Rolled Iron ($410M), Cars ($358M), Rice ($318M), and Special Purpose Ships ($314M), importing mostly from China ($7.91B), Netherlands ($1.26B), India ($1.01B), United States ($938M), and Cote d’Ivoire ($685M).
