Why the police arrested a goat in Sunyani in 1975
Newsghana24.com sighted a Daily Graphic publication released on 3rd October, 1975 were it was reported that officers from Ghana Police in Sunyani had arrested a goat for snatching and chewing up money a woman was holding.
Based on what we saw in the article, the money that was snatched, Two Ghana Cedis, deprived a family of six food for 24 hours as the said amount’s purpose was to cater for the family’s upkeep.
A police spokesperson is reported to have narrated that the incident occurred “when the housewife was handing the money to her maid to shop for the day’s food. The goat reportedly snatched the money, chewed and swallowed it.”
According to the report, a “Good Samaritan” came to the rescue of the family of six, including a three-month-old baby, by giving them twenty cedis for their upkeep on that day.

Ghana Police however defended it’s decision for arresting the goat by saying that they arrested the goat so that when the owner comes to claim ownership of the goat, he or she pays for the money the goat snatched.

A SHE-GOAT, which deprived a family of six of food for 24 hours when it snatched a two-cedi note from a Sunyani housewife, is being held by the Sunyani police.
A police spokesman said the owner of the goat would be asked to refund the money when it is claimed.
The spokesman said the incident occurred when the housewife was handing the money to her maid to shop for the day’s food. The goat reportedly snatched the money, chewed and swallowed it.
The woman, whose husband is away on trek, has been given ¢20 by a person described as a Good Samaritan for the up-keep of her family. which includes a three-month-old baby boy.
