Volta Region set to be Ghana’s tourism hub – GTA CEO

Maame Efua Houadjeto, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has drew to attention that the potential of Volta Region as a major tourist destination. Maame Efua Houadjeto also talked about the rich heritage, festivals, landscapes, and cultural assets.
During the 2025 Volta Investment Summit, Maame Efua Houadjeto expressed three keys steps that can help achieve the full potential of the region and these are Heritage Protection, Sustainable Eco-Tourism, Digital Visibility and Global Promotion, and Job Creation, and Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships.
Maame Efua Houadjeto revealed the digital transformation of GTA through the Ghana Tourism Information System (GTIS), featuring seven innovative project.
This innovative project includes a website which will help in terms of verifying licensed facilities, a cashless booking platform and a license portal. She also talked about the importance of involving people in the community, by stating that “When locals are investors, employees, and service providers — not just spectators — tourism development becomes truly transformative.”
The Summit was focused on promoting the Volta Region as an attractive investment destination by showcasing what makes the cultural identity special and economic opportunities. The Maame Efua Houadjeto spoke with a sense of hope about the future of the region by saying that “The Volta Region is ready. Ghana is ready and I commend the Regional Coordinating Council for leading the way on this, and due to that I reaffirm the Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA) readiness to deepen collaboration.”
She added that “As we look ahead, let us build pathways that transform the cultural identity of Volta Region into long term economic value. Let us invest boldly, promote smartly through digital innovation and preserve responsibly while empowering our youth and communities”.
