Registration of Unqualified WASSCE Candidates by Remedial Schools
WAEC has Cautioned Students and the general public to be alert on the illegal Registration of Unqualified WASSCE Candidates by Remedial Schools through the medium of advertisement. This was contained in a press release by the WAEC and sighted by NewsGhana24.com.
The council indicated that advertisements by both remedial and virtual schools should be avoided by the general public since any registration with any of these schools will be a risky one.
The WASSCE examinations are strictly for students in officially recognized public and private second cycle institutions. In the statement, WAEC indicated that “the WASSCE for School Candidates is made available to only students who are in recognized public/private schools, and have gone through 3 years of senior high school education.”
Since the examination requires recognized schools to submit the continuous assessments of students, it will difficult for any unrecognized secondary school to successfully register any student. This examination has a 30% continuous assessment component, the statement added.
This warning comes in the wake of the seemingly mad rush by students for such services which have been extensively advertised by some remedial schools in the country.
To ensure no duplicate data is sent to the council on the same candidate and to make sure “illegal” schools do not register candidates from other schools for the exams meant for strictly secondary schools. The council revealed it “will match the data of all candidates who are registered for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020 with existing information in its database.”
Therefore all candidates who bona fide (official) students of the recognized public/private senior high schools will be regarded as unqualified candidates for the WASSCE 2020.
Such students will have their registration nullified. This has been the practice in many schools in the past at the BECE /WASSCE where second-year students and students from other schools are poached by others to take the examination in the poaching schools.
