Mahama warns leaders against ‘decisions that kill’ after debt crisis claims lives

President John Dramani Mahama
President John Maham heeds various l leaders, motivating each one of them to carefully gauge the real-life consequences of their decisions, especially those that takes hold of the financial well-being or stability of the citizens
During his speaking at homage for the late Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo, CEO of KAMA Group of Companies, he related his death to the harmful effects of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) implemented by the previous government.
He highlighted that the formal president Dr. Addo was just one of thousands of Ghanaians whose lives were breathless by the debatable policy and ruling of the previous government.
President John Mahama talked from within about pensioners and elderly citizens who, after working hard over the years, were left penniless and unable to afford basic needed things like medicine due to the DDEP.
“I was shocked when I heard he is dead, but it also tells us that as leaders, our decisions have extensive and effective consequences.
“KAMA was a household name, and his misery with the bond exchange was well-known because he spoke about it,” Mahama made it clear.
“But over him, thousands of elderly individuals have had their pension funds exhausted. Many of them have either dead and some are in their various homes bleeding in silence, unable to afford even basic medical care.”
The former president through the occasion demanded substantial answerability from those in power, urging leaders to ensure that the well-being of the citizens are placed above economic policies that impose suffering.
“For me, the lesson here is clear: leaders should always remember that their decisions affect the lives of Ghanaians. Governance is not just about numbers and policies—it concerns the people,” he highlighted.
President Mahama also showed sympathy to Dr. Addo’s family, telling them to have comfort in the continuing impact of their father’s legacy.
