Essipong Sports Stadium
Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation after touring the Essipong Sports Stadium on Friday, November 21, 2025, said that the stadium must be brought back to life.
Kofi Adams who is 50 years old and a Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem Constituency inspected the stadium with Yaw Ampofo who is the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) to check how the rehabilitation works are being done and the general condition complex.
The Essipong Sports Stadium was constructed in 2008 for African Cup of Nations and it is a 20,000 seater stadium. The Essipong Sports Stadium has not undergone any serious rehabilitation in almost 20 years. Many important part of the stadium is badly worn out and these parts includes the roofing, spectator seats, technical stations, washrooms and lighting.
For the last three years, the Essipong Sports Stadium has been without electricity. After the Minister of Sports and Recreation visited the stadium, he showed concern about how slow the current repair work is going phase I and II. The Minister stated that “Three years is too far for such an important national facility left in this condition.”
During the time Kofi Adams was acknowledging some satisfactory work, he added that “The quality of some work is commendable but the slow pace is very frustrating and need to be addressed.” The Minister also talked about how important the facility is to the whole country, noting that the “Essipong Sports Stadium is not just a Western Region issue but a national issue that must be brought back to life.”

The Minister of Sports and Recreation again said that “we are committed to speeding up this kind of work as soon as possible so that stadium will once again serve the people of Ghana and serve businesses and local community better.”
The ongoing rehabilitation work include upgrading of lights, reroofing with anti-rust materials, the installation of new scoreboard, the replacement damaged seats, refurbishment of sanitary facilities, new fittings for corporate space and improved ventilation.
The Ministry is also looking into ways to enlarge the project so that it will be able to restore the stadium to it full potential.
