Inter Miami confirm Messi Return -'The GOAT is coming back'

Lionel Messi’s return has been officially announced by Inter Miami, bringing joy to his devoted fans with the message: “No more tears, the GOAT is back!”, Miami confirm Messi’s Return.

Inter Miami have confirmed that Lionel Messi will return for their game against Philadelphia Union. Messi hasn’t featured in an Inter Miami shirt since June. The Herons sit top of the MLS Eastern Conference, and his return will provide a major boost to their MLS Cup hopes.

Inter Miami is in pole position for the Supporters’ Shield – all with Lionel Messi appearing in just 12 of the team’s 27 regular season matches.

The Herons are essentially running away with the Supporters’ Shield title with 59 points from 27 matches played. Messi last featured for Miami on June 1 in a 3-3 draw against St. Louis CITY before departing for Copa America and picking up an ankle injury in the final.

Messi’s absence hasn’t particularly slowed things down at Chase Stadium. Luis Suarez, Diego Gomez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have received praise, but select players stepped up this season as the Herons eye MLS Cup glory later this year.

Inter Miami confirmed Messi’s return by sharing a video of a young Miami fan in tears about watching her hero. “I want to see Messi. I am his fan, and I want to see,” she says in the video.

The Herons wrote in the caption: “Cry no more the [GOAT] is back tomorrow.”

Beyond the pressure and headlines, Martino said trophies and results are not how he measures whether or not a team is successful.

“Seeing a team on the field that plays as one trains, that plays as one thinks and imagines, I think that is the essential part of success,” he said.

“Then there are circumstances that lead you to victory or defeat, but when you identify your team on the field, you are closer to thinking that the job is well done. Now, this is also exempt from the results, because I saw one of my teams with Columbus, but we lost. Then it can also be interpreted that since I like to analyze the path that is followed, I detach myself from the results but the results are what maintain us or not in office. But, I like to see a team of mine that plays like we train, that plays like we prepare for games and in that sense.”

Inter Miami will continue to build momentum ahead of the playoffs when facing the Chicago Fire on Aug. 31 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. Though Messi will continue to watch from the sidelines as he recovers from the right ankle injury he sustained in the final of Argentina’s winning run at the Copa América, his return to the field draws closer every day.

Messi finally returned to team training the week of August 26, gaining reps alongside his Inter Miami teammates, though no return date has been set.

Next expectations for Messi

Messi will want to return with a bang after his lengthy absence. Inter Miami might be near impossible to stop should the Argentinian get back to his best, with Philadelphia Union their opponents on Sunday morning.
