EPL: He’s not outstanding – Agbonlahor slams Chelsea star for demanding £200,000.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has slammed Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for demanding £200,000-a-week from the West London side.
Agbonlahor said that the England international is neither an outstanding nor a fantastic player and does not contribute enough to the club to make such a demand.
According to him, Mount is unworthy of a salary package worth £200,000 per week, having scored just 27 goals in 129 league appearances for the Blues.
“He has scored 27 goals in 129 league games. He is not fantastic. The stats show that he is not,” he told talkSPORT.
“He is an okay player, but he is not outstanding. He is not adding enough to the team to warrant a £200,000-a-week contract.”
Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing the midfielder from Chelsea this summer.
Arsenal are keen to land Chelsea and England star Mason Mount during the summer transfer window, having identified midfield as a crucial area to invest after Manchester City’s 4-1 victory at the Etihad on Wednesday.
Mail Sport understands that Mount has emerged a key target for the Gunners ahead of this summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen his midfield options ahead of another title surge next campaign.
The England international’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge has been called into question this season as he remains locked in contract talks at Chelsea
In total, Mount has scored 33 goals and laid out 37 assists in 195 matches for Chelsea since making his debut in 2019.
However, the Spaniard is weighing up whether it would be more beneficial to split Rice’s potential transfer fee across a number of positions, seeing as Arsenal have significantly missed William Saliba in defence since his back injury.
This, in theory, would only increase Mount’s chances of moving across to north London next season, with the midfielder expected to leave on a cut-price deal as a result of his ongoing contract impasse.
Arsenal are also open to shipping a handful of players in a bid to raise funds ahead of the summer, Mail Sport understands.
The Gunners are prepared to listen to offers for Reiss Nelson, Kieran Tierney and Granit Xhaka in the summer, while also selling on-loan stars Folarin Balogun and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
