CalBank launches network for female employees
CalBank PLC has launched the CalWomen’s Network to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for female employees.
This initiative aligns with the Ghana Sustainability Banking Principles, particularly Principle 4 on gender equality, and the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles.
The Network aims to provide mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities for women within the organization.
The launch included the inaugural induction of the executives of the CalWomen’s Network, highlighting its mission to connect, collaborate, share resources, and promote both personal and professional growth for women at CalBank.
Rationale
Board Chairman Joe Mensah emphasized that the network aims to create an inclusive environment where every staff member can thrive, lead, and innovate. He noted the value women bring to the institution and the financial sector.
Mensah stressed that this initiative is not solely a women’s issue but an organizational imperative requiring the engagement of the entire CalBank family.
“When we bring together individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints, we unlock creativity, enhance problem-solving, and drive innovation. This network is a crucial step in harnessing that power,” he stated.
He encouraged women to embrace this initiative to break down barriers, challenge biases, and create opportunities.
Acting Managing Director Carl Asem echoed these sentiments, stating that when women pursue collective goals with mutual benefits, they achieve excellent results.
He urged all women in the network to fully participate in its activities to evolve, upgrade their skills, and enhance their professional development.
Asem acknowledged the efforts and dedication of the team in making the vision of the CalWomen’s Network a reality.
Corporate Culture
Isabel Boateng, Managing Partner at AB & David Africa, emphasized the importance of building a corporate culture that supports gender equality and diversity.
She highlighted that the advancement of women in leadership roles makes sound business sense, noting that clients increasingly consider gender inclusivity when selecting financial partners.

Sharing her personal experiences, she stressed the importance of self-awareness and growth. “Being honest with yourself about who you are is paramount.
Embrace your strengths and weaknesses and move beyond mistakes. As women, we must shine in our unique ways, leveraging our gifts and experiences to empower ourselves and others,” she said.
Commitment
Anita Nadia Attah, President of the CalWomen’s Network Executives, expressed their commitment to shaping a future where gender equality and professional success coexist.
She said the Network would create an inclusive and welcoming space for women at CalBank to make meaningful connections, build knowledge, and expand their spheres of influence.
The network plans to implement mentoring programs, talks, learning series, workshops, breakfast meetings, and social events to support its members.
