Blood on the pitch: Chaos at Nana Kronmansah Park kills one at Kotoko-Nsoatreman clash
A terrible fate befell Asante Kotoko as they suffered a shocking defeat to Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025 at Nana Kronmansah II Park. As announced officially by the club, a Kotoko supporter popularly known as “pooley” was stabbed during a violence after the match. According to several sources, the deceased was stabbed five times and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital despite efforts to save his life.
Although the circumstances leading to the violence remains unclear, but an eyewitness at the stadium during the chaos accounts suggest that tension escalated between rival supporters following the football game. Chaos erupted on the pitch as players from Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC exchanged blows during the heated match.
In a video shared by Hussein Adams, a fan at the stadium, Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was seen punching two Nsoatreman players on the sideline. Again, Kotoko captain Justice Blay also joined the fray further in escalating the altercation whereby he scuffled with several Nsoatreman players, while home fans hurled objects at the visiting team.
Due to that Mohammed Camara and Justice Blay were both sent off. Kotoko suffered another red card ending the game with eight players and ultimately losing 1-0.
The club expressed deep sorrow over the loss extending condolences to the bereaved family of “Pooley” and the entire Kotoko fraternity. The Asante Kotoko club also described the level of destruction as unacceptable, calling for stronger security measures at league venues. They also pledged to cooperate fully with Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) investigation and demand prompt actions against those found responsible.
Asante Kotoko strongly condemns the recent act of violence and emphasizes that football must be played in a secure and fair environment. The club urges all stakeholders to take decisive action to ensure the safety of teams, officials, and fans. Kotoko reaffirms its commitment to professionalism and fair play in Ghanaian football, and calls for zero tolerance towards violence in the beautiful game.
